Storefront Frame Repair & Reglazing
A storefront with sound aluminum framing can often be restored for a fraction of the cost of a new one. We reglaze, regasket, repair sills and reseal storefronts to restore their weather tightness and appearance.
Assessing the frame
The first question is whether the framing is worth keeping. We check for corrosion, loose joints, out-of-square openings and damage. If the framing is sound, reglazing and repair will usually restore the storefront. If it is not, we say so and price a replacement.
A typical restoration
- Remove glass and old gaskets or glazing tape
- Clean the glazing pockets and clear weep paths
- Repair or add sill end dams and reseal joints
- Reset glass on new setting blocks with new gaskets or tape
- Replace perimeter sealant and adjust doors
Upgrading during reglazing
Reglazing is also the moment to replace single-pane or failed insulated glass with low-E insulated units, if the frame can accept them.
